I got my phone programmed, changed the processing profiles on the Baker & Taylor account. Got by TB test read - I can continue working - whew! Did all kinds of general stuff - keys, ID, parking permit.Spent 2 1/2 hours training on the Voyager Cataloging/Circulation Software. The person that trained me was great - she loves cataloging - what more do I need to say. I am glad there are individuals that like doing that tedious, meticulous work. I pay attention to detail but not to the degree of a professional cataloger. It is like knowing a secret code and having the keys to the kingdom. I just want to stay outside and enjoy the view!Off tomorrow - our daughter is showing hogs at the county fair. I will check back in on Monday.
Day 1 at Metcalf

Where to start - I have a long list of short term goals that need immediate attention before school starts. So I decided that setting up an up-to-date circulation station was important for a functioning library. So I unplugged the very dated printer from the CPU and started unscrabbling cords and finding out what worked and what didn’t. I connected the new 3800 wand which replaced the lovely 20th century wand. Next I contacted a person at Milner Library to figure out why my account for Voyager wasn’t working. Got that solved. Only thing I am waiting on is for our great tech guy to load the print driver for the receipt printer. The collection has several issues - the major one is that when I walked in the circulation system in use was a dos based Winnebago system circa 1990’s. About 10% of the collection is not in the new Voyager system. Of that 10% about 8.5% do not have barcodes and need to be sent to Milner for cataloging. So I started wanding books today and found some scenarios of what I might run across and need to speak the head cataloger at Milner.I had a very nice surprise delivered today to work - one of my best friends Pat sent me a beautiful plant for my first day. It brought happy tears to my eyes.Overall not a bad first day. One middle school language arts teacher stopped by to say hi. She shared some of her concerns about the lack of upper level books for the students. So noted!!! I have great hopes I will make a difference in the library program. Staying focused and being patient will be my mantra!
